Journey to Juneteenth

Join UZIMA! as we continue to share and expand the principles of ASHE within our community as we prepare for BOUNDLESS - our second major concert with the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center on June 22nd in celebration of Juneteenth and the spirit of freedom!

The Power of ASHE

UZIMA! Drum and Dance Company's "ASHE: A Celebration of Voices" debuted on January 20, 2024 as part of the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center's Presenting Series. The concert showcased over 225 performers from all over Michiana including various college, church and independent choir performers as well as UZIMA! dancers, drummers and choir members.

In the Yoruba culture, ASHE means to speak into existence that which you desire. UZIMA! was led to use ASHE as the guiding principle in curating this unique concert to begin to speak wholeness, health and life into our families, communities and world. To help people realize the power of words and how we can use our own voices to uplift, inspire, heal, and transform.

The concert also featured short film segments produced by Artistic Director Kelly Burget and created with the partnership of DeBartolo's outstanding photographer/videographer Kirk Richard Smith. We are now offering these videos, in snippets and the full length video, to the public as we start a larger conversation around the principles of ASHE on our journey toward BOUNDLESS, our second featured concert of 2024 at the DeBartolo in June in celebration of the Juneteenth holiday and the spirit of freedom.

Please join us in the conversation. We welcome everyone into our drum circle.
